my linux kernel version is quite ancient (2.4.3-20mdk). =2D>before it failed, it was burning at 3x which is quite slow (I wanted 8x= =20 which is the minimum speed at which Version 11.1 is in beta right now and Patatrox posted a link in the Toast 11 forum. unfortunately, DMA was enabled on the DVD reader, the CD burner and also the harddrive. so, here's thanks to everyone as well as those brilliant techie brains that solved this splitting headache of a problem. useful reference
I am no great expert on the subject and am merely stating what I have so far discovered for myself. I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. However, there are lots of things that can go wrong with the media which is what the ‘sense code' refers to. 0x73, 0x03 is to do with laser power calibration. Toast 10 is not yet a "legacy" application so I expect Roxio to continue working on any serious performance issues. Maybe it's a loose cable? That is enough time for the OS to recognize that its a blank DVD and to get it ready.
Just get a good cleaning kit.
