I doubt formatting for windows on puter will do it. Upon start up and the phone still can't detect the SIM card, remove it one more time and clean its interface with dry, soft cloth and then insert it back. There may be oxidation on the pins. Seems to be ok till now.

However, doing so is not a guarantee the problem will be fixed because apparently I don't know how far the damage was.
