Sd770is Lens Error

This is an older camera, and I knew it wasn't worth sending for repair. They are scratched and used cameras, while the condition was good on mine, it was clearly not new. That's about the worst thing you can do and it rarely fixes it like some say, and if so it's temporary. click site
My friend had an SD900 like mine and when he got the lens error problem he got it fixed by a shop. When i try to take a photograph i hear it cycle, but nothing is taken. I've taken a couple of photos, viewed them, turned the camera off and on again and still working. Thank you all. Now, after repair, lens won't retract and E18 error code. navigate to this website Geez!
Tried the sd1200 but is was awful. Cameras And Parts but tapping the usb port cover against the counter gently did work. The independent shops are familiar with getting the camera working right.
I then turned it off, reinserted the SD card, and turned it back on...and it worked.
But still, after a few minutes the same happens again. the "lens error" message showed up again. Then I came back & did a google search on this E18 error & landed to this website. Now seems to be working just fine. I thought this camera was looking to meet it's electronic grave. They were very helpful. The lens went inside and the shutter closed.
They were so incredible to work with, the total opposite of Canon. I no longer have a warranty so will try and open it and repair it, but.... You may hold the end of the spring with a toothpickk to hook it over the post or you may catch the post by twisting the flap a millimeter extra before It's working great now since having it repaired.
My last resort was to bang it with my hands. Just got it out today, put in new batteries and it worked for a couple of hours. In the end, I got it serviced by www.camerasandparts.com and it was a smart decision. This past vacation sand must have gotten into the mechanism, causing my E18 error. Reply to this post Permalink | Report abuse Do you think this post adds to the discussion? The drive for the lense got noisey and the lense stayed out. Some months later, (today) same error.
I did this for quite awhile and was ready to just toss out the camera and lo and behold the lens opened. Then today the screen stayed completely black when I turned it on.
