Sand In Camera Zoom Error

Should I open it to clean the lens and gears or should I just put it in some kind of liquid to remove those sand away without the batteries, and then navigate here

I couldn't wait to send off this POSITIVELY first comment ever. Some other names for this problem include for Canon Powershot and Nikon Coolpix "lens error", Sony Cybershot "access error", Kodak Easyshare "lens obstructed",and Fuji Finepix "zoom error" and "focus error". I tried to lke reboot the Camera.
Check your user manual on what to do when you get this error message.
I tried turning the camera on and off, but to no avail. Lens Error Nikon J1 It's certainly better but there is still something sticking, gentle taps while the lens is trying to open seems to help it and I can now take pictures again, maybe it With new battery in, I grasped the lens between thumb and forefinger and twisted slightly clockwise as I turned the camera on. Thanks for the suggestion,That worked and I am puttingthe cash back in my wallet.It wasn't as difficult as I thoughtit would be to completely dismantlethe camera and put it back together.Have But I noticed there was a small gap and the lens was actually crooked when I sat it down. You saved me a lot of grief, as the camera was not even mine... =)Don't be afraid to pull outward a little on the lens. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. And I didn't get sand in it (as far as I know). Plugging in your cable for 5 minutes will give your camera extra energy.
Make sure it's dry before you reseat it, and reassemble the camera.
