Top 10 Reasons NOT to Get OnLive

Posted on 07. Apr, 2009 by in News & Articles

Since I wrote a quick post on the Top 10 Reasons to Get Onlive, I thought to be fair I should also list the top 10 reasons others won’t get OnLive. Check them out below:

1. OnLive is using new technology that possibly might not work.

2. Lag could possibly be a huge problem.

3. OnLive has very few games (currently only 16).

4. OnLive could possibly be delayed and possibly never come out, becoming the next Phantom.

5. If the OnLive service ever goes down, you can’t play your games.

6. If you lose or don’t have Internet access, you can’t play your games.

7. OnLive is only available in the United States.

8. High definition gaming requires at least a 5 Mbps connection.

9. OnLive doesn’t have the backing of a huge corporation like Microsoft or Sony.

10. Using L, I, V, and E buttons instead of A/B X/Y buttons is stupid and confusing, just like “circle” and “triangle” buttons on PlayStation.

getting confused over a button just because it has a different name is stupid. and a/b x/y makes no sense anyway it’s not even like it’s the first 2 letters and last 2 letters of the alphabet. i’m guessing your an xbot

XD those reasons are crap. Especially 10. Who gives a crap what symbol is on a button?

2, 5 and 6 seem to be the only valid points.

- If OnLive is using new technology that possibly might not work, then you won’t have to buy it because they won’t be selling it…
- OnLive has very few games but if there are players, there will be games…
- OnLive could possibly be delayed and possibly never come out… doh! How could you get something that never comes out (may I remind you the title of your post: Top 10 Reasons NOT to Get OnLive)???
- OnLive is only available in the United States: then again, not a problem if you’re european or asian since it will not be sold in your country…
- Using L, I, V, and E buttons instead of A/B X/Y buttons is stupid and confusing, just like “circle” and “triangle” buttons on PlayStation: is it really worth even considering this one?!

1. It already works, they’ve already got servers up and have been testing for a while now.

2. Get an Xbox then and play singleplayer games.
3. More will come by the time of release.
4. How can it be delayed when it’s pretty much finished and working? Also, you should stop saying possibly.
5. If the OnLive service ever goes down, you can’t play your games.

6. Yeah, but to some that may be better than forking out for an Xbox.

7. First good disadvantage of the whole list!

8. Easily available.

9. No, it has the backing of huge corporations like EA and Ubisoft.

10. WTF, stupid reason. When the Xbox came out no one complained that it used different buttons from the Playstation.

This whole list is shit, apart from number 7.

Haha, great comments so far :p I agree with many of you. Check out the other post on the top 10 reasons to get OnLive.

#10 is the best though. I can’t tell you how many times I have to look down at the PlayStation controller to figure out where the triangle button is!

AGREED, any man with a minimum amount of logic would figure these are ret.. um weird motives (they are not reasons at all):
1. good thing they didn’t say: that possibly might probably shouldn’t in some cases work doesn’t get any vague than that, proves zilch

2. true but that’s a HUGE “could” if they get servers all over the “could” gets pwnd

3. Well no duh let’s see how many games did EA have when they started out, or any gaming company or gaming service in a BETA state. you’d be… to expect one hundred games when it’s in a beta or even at the begining

4. “could possibly” AGAIN nothing certain epic fail I could possibly buy a car on friday if I found some money on trees, and the trees could possibly maybe grow that money. I could possibly do a lot of things but that’s intuition NOT REASON.

5. If my ISP goes down I don’t have internet, if electricity goes down I don’t have any power in the house that doesn’t mean I quit on my ISP or I throw my PC, TV, Phone, or other out the window because they need electricity

6. If you don’t have internet access you can’t play MMOs or download Patches or watch youtube, or post on forums or download porn, but that doesn’t mean the services aren’t succesfull.

7. And they said that in time they will extend it, Last fm will be free only in Germany UK and USA but it still rocks. If pandora (which is unavaliable in Romania my country said they will make it avaliable for RO, I’d wait why not)

8. And you will not die, and the game will not crash, if you use Standard definition, or upgrade your connection, how much you want to spend on your connection is NOT the company’s problem.

9. Windows vista has the backing of Microsoft and it still sucks, Internet explorer 6 has the backing of Microsoft and it still sucks because it doesn’t support css2, loads of games have the backing up of sony and they still suck. Onlive doesn’t have that backing up because it gives the advantage to the people not the company, obviously the companies don’t like that, because they want to get rich of our –ses, How do you thin Billy boy got to wealthy?

10. ummm and you can connect a controller to the pc to solve your problem, actually their own controller since it has a usb port.

Overall
1 FAIL
2 FAIL
3 FAIL
4 FAIL
5 FAIL
6 FAIL
7 FAIL
8 FAIL
9 FAIL
10 FAIL
=
you EPIC FAIL in providing at least one reason (never mind 10) why people shouldn’t use Onlive, go back to spending your money on specs and consoles. I do hope Online notes in this period who supports it and who does not, and when it will work, and evolve to international all who said onlive fails should be banned from the service

So in #1, #4, #5, #6 and #7, you’re saying I should NOT get OnLive because it won’t be available. If it’s not for sale, then I should NOT get it. That’s like warning me NOT to buy apricots because they’re sold out. “Sir, make sure you do NOT buy tennis balls here, as we are an electronics store and we carry no such item!” Likewise, #6 tells me NOT to get OnLive because I might not have the Internet.

As for #9, OnLive has the backing of Warner Bros, AutoDesk and Maverick Capitol, basically household names.

#7: OnLive will only be LAUNCHING THIS WINTER in the U.S. It will be available elsewhere at later dates. It is NOT U.S.-Only.

#8: The developers have said that the average amount of bandwidth needed will be closer to 2Mbps, and 4+Mbps at peak, and in the hundreds of kilobytes per second at it’s minimum. Therefore, capabilities of 5Mbps are recommended. So you’re right, but it’s important to note that it won’t be at 5Mbps at all times.

#3: The Xbox 360 had about 20 launch titles in the U.S., the Xbox had 11, the Wii had 20, the PS3 had 13, the DS had 7. I also don’t think that this list is cemented, I think that more could be added to it before launch. Either way, 16 is a about what you can expect from a modern console launch.

Lol, dude, what’s that supposed to be?

“It might now work”? Are you stupid? It comes out, it works or not. Period. Then we’ll see.

Saying stuff like “don’t use it, because it MIGHT not work” is simply idotic.

07. Apr, 2009

wow, that’s an incredibly bad list of reasons…

“10)Using L, I, V, and E buttons instead of A/B X/Y buttons is stupid and confusing, just like “circle” and “triangle” buttons on PlayStation.”

this is a very personal point. to me using L,I,V,E buttons is stupid as A,B,X,,Y buttons. Instead using square, triangle, circle, X buttons is more…more intuitive and appealing.
for the rest I’m not interested in gaming cloud.I want my piece of hardware, upgrade my pc and software/games on dvd or bluray.at least I’m interested to download entire games and/or DLCon my hard-disk.simply I’m not interested to play on demand.

What bullshit, OnLive could be the single most revolutionary thing to happen in video gaming for a very very long time.

1. Im sure theyre going to test it a lot before releasing it. They’ve been working on it for almost a decade IIRC, which shows their effort to make it work, and this summer they’re giving betas to certain public people to make sure it works.
2. Once again, they’ve tested it a lot, and theyre going to as much as they can to get no lag. If you get lag, its probably cause your connections not fast enough, in which, you shouldn’t buy it.
3. OnLive has very few games (currently only 16). Thats 16 confirmed, the day its announced. Now that more developers know about it, they can work on more for release, and still, 16 is an average amount for a starting lineup
4. I doubt they wont release it, and on their site they said theyll probably have it out by holiday 09.
5. Im sure theyll have multiple servers in many areas, so if one goes down, theres still hope.
6. If you dont have internet all the time, you shouldnt buy it. If your internet fails, just think of it as power going out, and do something else.
7. Thats as of now. If it does well in US, they might spread it out. Also, if you live in US, why do you care anyways.
8. 5mb isnt that fast. Im sure you can afford it if you can afford both the onlive console and an high def tv. Also, if you cant do with standard definition, than your probably a graphics whore.
9. It has the backing of other huge corporations, as said.
10. Dont complain about buttons dude. Its not that hard to figure out. Think of it like this.
E is a vowel. A is a vowel. E is in same spot as A on a 360 controller.
V sounds like B. V and B are in same spots too
I sounds like Y. Same spots
L and X are left over. think of Xtra Large or something. Same spots again

you are dumb, and are a fanboy, You think A/B X/Y are easy to remember……They don’t even go together, If anything the playstations symbols are the easiest thing.

First off, majority of your complaints are plain retarded.,second of all, the way you wrote this waste of time makes you sound like one of those nerdy azz xbot fanboiz. And to the people talking about the ps controller, what are you like 2 years old?? because if you’re from ages 10-Up you would know sony had the leading counsel for 2 generations…if not you must have really lived in a cave….but yeah back on topic, maybe you should actually test out onlive before bashing it xbot. Oh I think I came up with 1 reason “YOU” should get onlive. So when your 360 RROD’s on your azz you’ll have something else to play fanboy. k thnx i’m out..

If you use an Xbox 360 controller on the device, it will recognize it and show A B X Y on the screen. :)

Whoever wrote this is a complete idiot.
You say the playstation controls are stupid and confusing. Try playing on it for a while and it wont be. I played a 360 for a while after not liking the controls and got used it, I was then fine.
You’re 12 years old.

If your not stupid you will be able to live without buttons (the game should tell you how to play with Onlive buttons) not Xbox or PS3. Also we need something new I hate being called a PS3 fan boy for not liking the XBOX 360 and we all know the wii is only fun for the first month. The only thing I might hate is if the thing goes down I lost my money

I think reasons 1-4 are genuine problems! I still don’t believe that most commercial broadband is capable of the kind of low latency that is required for such a service!
